Before reading this article I want you to listen to their latest release, “Guess I’ll Be Fine”.
This hypnotizing piece of work, and its intro which you can find here, allows for introspection. The best way to listen to their discography is with a good set of headphones. Let the tranquil sounds of this band whisk you away to a comforting place that you may not have gone to in some time.
The creators behind this track are the Los Angeles-based band The Goddamn Regret comprised of members Aharron Alvarez (drums), Anthony Ramirez (rhythm guitar/vocals), Christian Gurrola (vocals), Daniel Quintero (synthesizer), Isaac Simo (bass) and Josh Caldera (lead guitar). You can really hear their various genre influences including rock and jazz though each track.
I find this beneficial, the genre fusion, as you don’t know what to expect with each release. In their previous EP you could go from progressive rock as heard in “Ain’t She Cool” to a more funky tone like the last track “Farewell”.
They say that the name of the band comes from Paul Thomas Anderson’s film Magnolia. In this film, a character on his death bed reflects on his love life and all the mistakes he’s made, subsequently screaming “the goddamn regret!”. The band says, “It sounded like a perfect complement to the type of music we’re writing so we kept it.”
“Since the release of our first single we’ve had a lot of fun playing gigs at bars and jamming out in the studio together. We’ve even done a show out in the middle of the desert night! In the near future, we are planning to take a trip to a secluded cabin/house and focus on writing and recording new music for people to enjoy. As of now with the pandemic going on all we can do is hang tight and work on new music until we’re finally able to go back to playing live shows again because that’s what we really love to do!”
