I’ve had a newfound love for cleopatrick since watching them live. On October 7th, I had the opportunity of going to the cleopatrick concert at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. There was electricity in the air the second they got on stage. The crowd pressed together waiting for the first note, then erupted once the duo began.
It’s impressive what Luke Gruntz and Ian Fraser could do on the Bottom of the Hill’s stage. The music flowed through their fingertips. What I loved most was how their live performance added that additional layer to their songs that I didn’t notice was missing. It was a certain fullness that a recording can’t capture.
My one qualm with the show was the lighting. For those who may be epileptic or sensitive to flashing lights, this show may harm you. I noticed a majority of the crowd closing their eyes or looking down at the more intense parts of the show in order to save themselves from any impending headaches. This may have been just this specific venue to do this, but be wary.
Other than that this was an incredibly fun show. The listeners of cleopatrick were nice and welcoming. I even walked out of the venue with a few new concert friends. Lovers of the more punk rock sound will love what this Canadian duo has in store. Click the link below to see if they’re playing in a city near you!
