roman around is a new signee to Trailing Twelve Records and is challenging pop culture astrology with their track ‘Star Signs’. The American rock band formed in 2020 and is a vehicle for songs of the artist behind the moniker – Roman Rivera. Based in Fresno, California, the band consists of Roman Rivera, Justin Vogel, Chevas Vandel, and Luke Schafer.

Roman is a drummer and multi-instrumentalist identifying as non-binary and pansexual and honed in their skills. Harboring both Mexican and Native American heritage, Rivera grew up in tune with spirituality and astrology so their adeptness for experimenting with writing music, beat making, singing, guitar, and drumming allows them to hone in their craft to perfection. The essence is captured in the track with its expansive soundscape, blending dazzling percussion, cosmic synths, and bass tones for a seismic audio journey.

It’s light and airy, yet brooding and while you listen the etherealness hugs you like a cocoon. You can feel its warmth and emotion through Rivera’s vocals. Even with a haunting atmosphere, the song drives itself to push through boundaries that the listener may have. Some find astrology a pseudoscience, a way to judge others and avoid responsibility–as Rivera puts it. Though it may have become a trend, it is more of a personal, spiritual experience based on potential and possibilities. And I can see where the inspiration for Roman’s track comes from. It’s a wonderful indie/post-punk piece that will leave you comforted, energized, and excited for more.
