Showcasing artists going against the norm

February 15, 2022 Michelle Castillo

Charlie Hickey Mesmerizes Great American Music Hall

Charlie Hickey is someone you should put on your radar. Hailing from Pasadena, California, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter has the capacity of enticing anyone in earshot with his talented lyricism and captivating vocals.

It was just him and his guitar for the majority of the set. I was blown away by how much heart Charlie put into his performance. Each note sung or strummed was meticulously placed. They whisked the entire audience away into a peaceful realm. Rarely can an artist do such a thing in a live performance.

The second to last song of his set was the beloved track “Ten Feet Tall”. Charlie, when the song was first released said that it was a “different animal than any other song [he’d] written.” He continues with: “I’ve never written or recorded a song like this since, and we weren’t sure it was even going to come out. But when I heard it back, it really served as a time capsule of a very confusing/depressing but also very fruitful and fun time in my life!”

Accompanied by Samia, the two did the acoustic rendition justice. It felt like a completely different song.
