The New Jersey-based trio, The Happy Fits, finished their 11th week of touring at Grand Rapids’ Pyramid Scheme on May 6. With opener, Sarah and the Sundays, The Happy Fits were only a few tickets away from selling out the venue.
Consisting of Calvin Langman (cello), Ross Monteith (guitar) and Luke Davis (drums), The Happy Fits put on one of the best shows I’ve seen in Grand Rapids in a very long time, with constant crowd interaction, energetic fans dancing and singing along to every word, I’m glad to have been in attendance. If you couldn’t attend, I guess all I can say is that you truly missed out.
Playing an array of songs of their discography, from their first EP, Awfully Apeelin’, “Too Late” and “Dirty Imbecile”, to their latest LP, What Could Be Better, “Go Dumb”, “Two of Many”, “Hold Me Down” and those in between, “Mary”, “So Alright, Cool Whatever”, this group truly brought a new level of excitement to this city. They even managed to convince the light technician to turn on the venue’s disco ball.
“We’re going to remember this for the rest of our lives, so thank you for being here.” – Ross Monteith (guitar)
May 10 marks the end of their WCBB Tour; however, you can still catch their performances at Napa, California’s BottleRock Fest and Louisville, Kentucky’s Headliners Music Hall, and their recently announced appearance at Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s Summerfest. If you have the opportunity, I cannot recommend this group enough. I was pretty new to their music before seeing their show in Grand Rapids and I can already guarantee that they’ll be showing up on my Spotify Wrapped in December. I am looking forward to their next stop in Grand Rapids, as well as future music releases!
