Hi Madelyn! Can you tell us a little more about yourself for those who don’t know you?
I’m a singer/songwriter from Lubbock, Texas. I just graduated high school at Trinity Christian School this past May. I moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and started my Freshman year at Belmont University majoring in songwriting. I am heavily focused on music and songwriting right now and I’m just trying to get to know my new city.
It’s incredible that you created your debut EP during your last two years of high school. What was it like balancing school with music?
Balancing both at times was a struggle. There were many school nights that I would be in the studio late and then back at school early the next morning. Looking back it was totally worth it because I was still able to do what I love and I know many people can’t do this at such a young age.
I love how dynamic each song in “Midnight to Morning” is, and it looks like your audience does as well! I’m curious as to how your classmates reacted after its release?
My friends from high school have been super supportive. Also, all the people I’ve met here in Nashville have been interested in my music and encouraging as I transition from Lubbock to Nashville.
You’re currently living in Nashville, but you recorded the EP in your hometown of Lubbock, Texas. How have these two places affected your music?
Both Nashville and Lubbock have heavy influences from country music, but country is not my genre necessarily. Both have a strong music scene that has really encouraged me to pursue my music career. Seeing other musicians play and write really inspires me to do the same. Being around talented people really helps to inspire and urge me on in my music.
What had initially gotten you into music? Additionally, were there any life events that pushed you to create this EP?
I got into music at a young age and stuck with it. Music was something I loved as a kid and when I started writing in high school, music became my passion. I really just set a goal to myself that I wanted to write, record, and release an Ep in high school. It ended up taking a full year and a half, but it was totally worth it to me.
Congrats on the recent success of your work! With 40,000 streams of your song “Fall for You”, and your other songs close behind, it’s great seeing you achieve this popularity in such a small time frame. How does it feel having so many people listening to your work?
It is honestly really rewarding. It reassures me that all the time spent in the studio late at night was completely worth it. It shows that if I set my mind to it I can do this and be successful at it. There was a part of me that really doubted if I was cut out for this in the beginning and this has reassured me that I am. It makes me so happy so see that other people are enjoying these songs as much as I am.
What are you the most excited about going forward with your music career?
I’m very excited to continue down the genre of indie pop. I absolutely love where my music is headed and I hope it continues to grow here in Nashville.
