One of my new year’s resolutions for 2021 is to explore music. For way too long, I’ve been listening to the same songs and the same artists on repeat. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I’ve noticed myself getting bored with my music taste. I tried shuffling my music to reconnect with old favorites, spent time listening to playlists made by friends, even exploring artists I hadn’t really given the time of day in the past. Nothing was really doing it for me.
That is until I found “Don’t” by Calica and Daniel Loumpouridis. I can be very, very picky when it comes to new music. I find comfort and ease in listening to the same songs over and over, but as I mentioned…it can become boring. This song not only immediately drew me in with the dreamy cover art, but I am also a sucker for music with a message. Between the futuristic synths and driving baseline, this song speaks on creating healthy boundaries for yourself. I’ve struggled with my own identity when it comes to forming new relationships with friends, lovers, etc., and all the music that reflects the hardships in any relationship tends to be very depressing.
If you are looking for new music or need the extra boost of confidence to set up those boundaries, this is definitely the song for you. It’s upbeat and has a killer melody. I am excited to share this song with friends and to explore more music by both Calica and Daniel Loumpouridis. Any song that can have me dancing alone in my kitchen and make me to rethink my purpose and self-worth is a winner in my book.
