Showcasing artists going against the norm

October 4, 2020 Michelle Castillo

Editor’s Pick Vol 2

Whereas last week had a more alternative rock vibe, listening back to the tracks I’ve chosen for this week’s edition of Editor’s Pick, there’s a strong jazz influence in a majority of them. As the seasons change, so does my mood. I hope you like these songs as much as I do!

“The End” by Made of Stone

“The End” is Made of Stone’s 4th ever release. The LA-based band was formed in the Summer of 2019. Known for their ambient rock sound, this beautifully produced song has everything you need for a blissful listening experience. Grab your headphones, a warm blanket, and let Sophia Medina’s melodic voice take you away.

“daydream” by smth.nothing

smth.nothing have released a lofi track fit for the “Beats To Relax/Study To” livestream on YouTube. The reverbed guitar track with accompanying ocean waves are the perfect lead to a more tropical instrumental.

“Glitter en Tus Ojos” by Ovnis

The perfect song to add to your Halloween playlist. “Glitter en Tus Ojos” is the latest release of the Argentinian indie rock band, Ovnis. Omitting the use of an electric guitar, commonly found in this genre, the band had gone for a bass-heavy track with a haunting electronic sound.

“Another You” by Kimani

The latest acoustic track by Kimani is the first release off his new upcoming album Pastel Project. The 2 minute 26 second song is filled with beautiful harmonies, compelling lyrics or unrequited love, and interesting remixed ending which replicates the sound of the song being played on an antique radio. I’m excited to listen to the full album when it’s released!

“Amber” by Unusual Demont

The first track off Unnusual Demont’s debut EP Hues sets high expectations for what’s to come next from the young artist. The transition from his more casual singing/rap voice in the verse to the falsetto in the chorus showcase Demont’s versatility. The 20 year old singer/songwriter strives to “make music that appeals to all emotions […] and build strong relationships with his fanbase.”

“Heartbeat Automatic” by Cliff Days

Cliff Day’s latest track, “Heartbeat Automatic”, starts with a sustained bass note leading to a more funky beat and perfectly matched vocals. It’s dynamic. It’s compelling. The entirety of the track will keep you on your toes either from dancing along to the track or waiting in anticipation for the stunning solo at the 3 minute 2 second mark.

Are there any artists on your radar that I should listen to? Let me know by sending an email to cutitoutmag@gmail.com!
