Showcasing artists going against the norm

Editor’s Pick Vol. 7

This year went by so slow yet so quick. I wanted to highlight five of my favorite new songs from the past two weeks right before we publish our first-ever round up!

This week features songs by Xandy, Madeleine Mayi, SNENiE, Dunes, and

“(In)xanity” by XANDY

Swedish alternative R&B artist XANDY has debuted with his stunning new single “(In)xanity”. Ahead of his upcoming project, Andreas “XANDY” Cavaco’s new song is a sultry look into what the artist has been crafting these past few years. The hypnotic guitar pairs perfectly XANDY’s charismatic voice.

“The song is like me in a bed with all my relationships at once plus a muse sitting on my face. (Almost) obsessive.”

Cavaco hit the scene as part of the alternative soul duo Newtimers. Now, XANDY embarking on a new project. After creating his self-produced sound, the artist is ready to bring it to light.

“I left my ego at the door in a pursuit to cleanse myself. Find myself. Be myself. By myself. Along came XANDY. Insane as I am. In so many ways. Hard lover. Hard dreamer.”

“The Legend of Doc Henny” by Dunes

Hip-hop duo Sweeps and Bill Grease have created an instant classic in the form of “The Legend of Doc Henny”. With a smooth 90s flow and captivating instrumental, the track is the perfect addition to any kickback playlist.

Lyric video by Jack Poole

“ITRL” by Madeleine Mayi

“‘ITRL’ is a song about denial. It’s about seeing the world from this frozen state, right after something traumatic happens. When you can’t really tell when things are good or bad, or you’re hurting. It’s just that limbo time, where things feel confusing. That’s what in the right light is.”

Madeleine Mayi has just independently released “ITRL” ( In The Right Light). Reflecting on the emotional toll of losing a loved one, Mayi explores the aftermath of such trauma and path to healing. Mayi’s delicate voice is like a hug; comforting you when you need it the most.

Mayi’s debut album, set to release Valentine’s Day 2021, goes further into the themes of grief and introspection. Be sure to follow her on Spotify or Instagram to be notified of its release.

Single cover by Caity

“Aunque No Lo Parezca” by SNENiE

The title song of her latest six-track EP is of the artist no longer recognizing herself after a break-up. This back and forth of no longer wanting anything to do with a previous partner while simultaneously longing for them to be by your side is something we’ve all experienced after an intense falling out.

Besides the stunning visuals of the music video, the overall production of the song is breathtaking. The sense of despair and yearning are woven into each lyric. It’s hard to not feel the pain the SNENiE feels as she sings each line.
