Describing their debut single, “Half Brain”, as a “warm handshake” to the band is the perfect description of what this song does for the group. Hyooman is a Minneapolis-based alternative rock band created during quarantine. Comprised of Leng Moua (songwriter, vocals, guitar), McCoy Seitz (drums, vocals), Tamara Alswager (guitar, vocals), Elise Bremer (keys,
vocals), and Dillon Marchus (bass), the band’s debut is a spectacular showcase of their combined talents.
Just as there are different functions for each half of the brain, this song details two different conundrums. The first half of the song discusses the indifference of a person stemming from their lack of self-confidence. The second half details someone looking at high art and not understanding the meaning behind it. These halves are met together with the chorus “It’s ok I wouldn’t understand it anyway”, however, this line serves different meanings for the situation.
A light listen accompanied with thought-provoking lyrics; “Half Brain” is a great song to listen to if you want something to wind down to or if you need something to reflect on. For those who miss the carefree vibe of the early 2000s alternative rock sound, you will love this track. Be sure to follow Hyooman on their social to stay updated on their upcoming album.
