As part of our revamped series, In The Spotlight, we had the chance to feature the incredible artist Lyia Meta and the piece The View. Check out the full feature below!
What is the story behind this piece? Why is it your favorite?
Title: The View Acrylic on canvas.
I often feel that we take our surroundings and the world we live in for granted. For the longest time, I found clouds fascinating. A transient mass that carries a soul bringing with it a spiritual connection that breathes life into our world. Its power and grace dominates the skies above us casting a magical spell over the world below. And yet we are not cowed by its dominance! That is power unparalleled. There’s definitely more to clouds than just science. Didn’t the ancient Romans believe that their Gods sometimes lived in the clouds? Lol! A dreamer I’ll forever be.
What are 5 words to describe your aesthetic?
Dark, Contemplative, Natural, Metaphysical, Spiritual
What has been your favorite experience in your career?
Having my paintings sold before the art exhibit opened, including one of my larger pieces. The art collector requested a private viewing before the show. But generally speaking, all my paintings have found homes across the world. Some in foreign Ambassadors’ homes and some at charities. I don’t find any experience to be more important than the last.
How did you originally get into the arts? Who or what was your inspiration?
I come from a family where the arts and music have always been large parts of our lives. I started drawing and doodling from a very young age. It was a natural thing for me to explore the world of contemporary art and everything that came with it. As my music and art have always coexisted as an extension of who I am, it wasn’t unusual to find me picking up the brush when my thoughts and emotions needed a way to express themselves. It’s always been a draining process as I find I can never put down a brush until I’ve exorcised all my emotions and thoughts. My canvases are actually vessels that are charged with documenting my journey. A visual journal so to speak.
What are your future goals?
I try not setting goals. I work at my TODAY and hope the tomorrows will work themselves out. My work ethics have always been 200% everyday and no excuses. There is no excuse for laziness. I think it gets exhausting trying to keep up with goals. I find it easier to tell myself “OK, so this is what I am doing, let’s see what I can do with it and make it work”. It’s all the journey really.
