Brooklyn based indie folk-rock band The Bergamot is the latest project of husband and wife duo Nathaniel Hoff and Jillian Speece. Known for their storytelling, the poetic lyricism within their works takes you through a journey of introspection.
The Bergamot’s songs emphasize the beauty of unity and love. While times have been challenging, it’s important to hold gratitude in your heart and work with your community to uplift each other.
Every day we face some new hurdle yet willingly we choose to hold a heart of gratitude because gratitude is the thing that catapults us to focus on new opportunities and let go of what was. (in other words, gratitude helps us surrender to what was and create what will be).
Community is also an important aspect when discussing our impact on our frail planet. Their newest song “Make It Last” emphasizes the importance of unity to create a better world. By working together, we can protect and heal Mother Nature.
“This world is all we have/ the birds and the grass/ We’ve got to make this last”
Recent historic events have not allowed the artists to tour as much as they’d like, but it has given them time to reflect. The Bergamot had recently performed their new song “Paradise” at a private outdoor event. Listening back, Hoff and Speece recount that this new slow down in life has helped them appreciate the progress they’ve made as artists.
Recently, we heard someone talk about the idea of progress over perfection. Honestly, hearing this was a massive wake up moment for Nathaniel and I. Since it happened we have been committed to living this out. This shift has allowed us to create more art and celebrate the small victories along the way
There is a lot of surrender in this new thought process as it is allowing both of us to move closer to our dreams and fail-forward.
Speece and Hoff are gearing up to release their own solo tracks. Nathaniel has just put out his debut single “Virtues” and his second single, “All The Rage”, will be released on November 20th. Jillian is releasing her debut in the new year.
