I first saw Kid Bloom at the sold out Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco. Two years later, I had the wonderful opportunity of catching his set once again at the Independent. His vocals, already crisp when I initially saw him, had strengthened. He was still that exuberant performer with a polished sound. The band backing him matched his energy and gave new depth to these live renditions.
Everyone in the crowd was singing along to each song. Between songs, Lennon took the opportunity to talk to the audience and made them more involved with the set. “If the cowboy hat is still here, we can keep the show going,” Lennon said after noticing a flashing cowboy hat at the middle of the venue. Cheers ensured.
Kid Bloom is on the road to world-wide stardom not just with his stage presence, but with his catching songs and poetic lyricism. Take a listen for yourself on your preferred streaming platform. And make sure to follow him on socials to see when he’ll perform in your town.
