If you’re looking for some new music, check out this latest single by London based producer Kuma Overdose. Titled ‘Silhouettes’, this chill track blends Japanese folk music with hip-hop melodies. Now, that is something to be excited about.
The track incorporates hip-hop singing with fun soul tempos and percussion. There is an array of musical stylings in this song, making a rich tapestry of sound. Combined with thought-provoking lyrics, you can easily sway your heads to this while listening. Throughout the rapping, Tukki interjects with her verse. Both vocal parts answer each other in song.
Kuma has studied jazz for 8 years, so we can see where the eclectic rhythms originate in his productions. From childhood, he grew up in the LA suburbs under an Asian American household. This is where his hip-hop influence sprouted, as he studied jazz and developed it into hip-hop music writing. His signature sound is blending traditional Asian sounds with Western styles. That includes soul, jazz, Japanese City Pop and UK R&B for intercontinental sounds and rhythms. This is such a unique talent because the alchemy of cultures is something we would like to see more of in music.
If you want to hear more playful and experimental music, take a listen to his track!
