Mallrat has come back with another stunner, this time utilizing rock elements in her latest track. The beginning dirty guitar chords introduce Grace Shawās familiar, soft vocals which perfectly complement the grunge tones that Tommy English (songwriter and producer best know for his work with Kacey Musgraves and Carly Rae Jepsen) creates in the instrumental. A track that should be playing in a 90ās coming of age movie, āRockstarā truly showcases the growth the singer has gone through in the past year.
Shaw had this to say when creating the track:
āA lot of the songs Iāve been writing lately have been me realising my power. I wrote the chorus first, it has a completely different attitude on its own, but when you listen in the context of the verses and the really aggressive guitar outro it completely flips the perspective of everything. When I wrote the rest of the song a year later, I was feeling a lot more sure of myself. Itās interesting how time can reframe things that you still think and are still true but just give them a whole new house to sit in.ā
The Brisbane native has quickly become the countryās most beloved singer-songwriters. When her track āDrive Me Roundā graced my Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify a year ago, I immediately fell for the beautiful simplicity of her voice and complex musical productions. Her debut album will definitely be one for the books, and I canāt wait to listen to it.
