Showcasing artists going against the norm

May 26, 2022 Michelle Castillo

Nothing, Nowhere.

With four openers and a killer stage set up, I knew I was in for a treat. On May 11th, I had the opportunity to attend nothing, nowhere’s show at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. It was a high energy show through and through. While each had their own unique sound, the openers knew how to warm up a crowd, especially POORSTACY.

If you don’t know who nothing, nowhere. is, let me introduce you to him. This moniker is a musical project by Vermont songwriter, singer, and guitarist Joe Mulherin. Nothing, nowhere. is about connection. It’s one he find with his fans around the world who come together to see him perform on tour or listen to his music.

I could feel that sense of connection in the room. Joe utilized an open stage concepts with his drummer to one corner and his guitarist on another. With this set up he had the freedom to jump around and interact with everyone in the crowd.

The vulnerability within his lyrics cannot be ignored — especially when they’re belted by his audience. His vocals were raw, something that a recording can’t capture. I could feel the ground shake beneath me from the combination of the crowd jumping around me and the beat of the drums.

The lighting and visuals behind nothing, nowhere. enhanced his performance without being too distracting. While the front row yelled along to each lyrics, the very back of the crowd was dancing for the entirety of the show. Rarely did I see someone standing completely still at the show.

I was thoroughly entertained by this show, and you will be too! Be sure to grab a ticket to his show and marvel at the beauty that is nothing, nowhere.
