Here is a genre-bending pledge of self-belief from UK artist, ONUR. Titled ‘Wired’, it is a track encouraging people to never lose yourself just to make others happy. It was mixed by XL‘s in-house engineer John Foyle (who’s worked with Sampha, fka Twigs, and Kali Uchis to name a few). The song is available on all streaming platforms now.
Written, produced, and performed by the artist himself, there is no other track like it. Where else can you find a song as relatable when sung to you personally? It combines RnB, funk, soul, synthwave, and synthpop sounds. ONUR’s vocals are sultry and soulful with each verse he sings. It is a tune sure to leave you wired for more.
The 23-year-old singer first erupted on the British music scene in 2018. As a songwriter and producer, he knows how to play with genres and set the tone. Never looking back and hungry for success, ONUR patiently worked through one song at a time to reach his end goal of a dream. Slowly, he nabbed the attention of media outlets like Konbini, 1883 Magazine, Fred Perry’s Subculture, EARMILK, and EUPHORIA. He has even played on radio shows such as BBC Radio London, KCRW, and Reprezent. With such a great reputation, industry professionals like Martin Garrix and labels like Ninja Tune, RCA, Atlantic and the likes have garnered his support. While all very exciting leaps towards success, an unfortunate side step landed the inspiration for ‘Wired’.
“I made this song at a time when a lot of my ‘friends’ started to resent me for the little success I started to make in music after working so hard to even get there. It’s a difficult situation to be in but I basically said fuck ‘em and wrote an unapologetic song playing up to my ego, about the joy of seeing people hate me for no reason, hence, I’m WIRED.”– ONUR
In that quote above, he vows to “pour his heart out whichever way it feels right” this year. With a new year and a new self, he is ready to show us what he is made of.
He sold out two headline shows in London and has over 600K streams on Spotify. Wired is his first release this year, along with a sophomore EP scheduled for release in the fall. Make sure to check out the music video that accompanies this track, shot by Oliver Marshall out now.
