Mixing her jazz vocal style with alternative/hip hop elements, Talia Stewart has created a distinctive dark-pop sound that will stick to your mind long after her songs stop playing. Her dark sound will resonate with those who are fans of Billie Eilish, Post Malone, and Kali Uchis. Her song “Look Ma No Hands” had recently gained notoriety after going viral on TikTok. But you may recognize her 2018 single “Throw It Away” placed in the CW’s “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” or her collaboration with Bardo titled “Dejame” after it landing on the CW’s “The Flash”.
Her latest project is more on the visual side. Collaborating with her creative director, Bernadine Gunderson, Stewart sought to showcase her all female team in a Nadia Lee Cohen and Tim Burton inspired photoshoot. Shot by renowned Nashville-turned-Austin photographer, Jasmine Archie, the team is showcased via a pastel dream set to a tea party and game of croquet.
“Working with women has been the biggest blessing of my career,” Stewart says, “so much less is lost in translation. I’m still getting used to the idea that I don’t have to do it all myself.”
She says that allowing herself to trust her team had taken her artistry to the next level.
“I can say one word and give Bernie a look and she knows exactly what I’m trying to convey visually. I can hum a melody to Ashley and she’ll figure out exactly what I’m trying to say sonically. I can be frustrated about how to handle an issue and Taylor will understand and steer me in the right direction without me having to ask for her help. It’s a sisterhood. A group of women who want to see each other do well. I want my team to collaborate with as many creatives and build as many industry contacts as they can. I want to see them succeed just as fervently as they want to see me succeed. This shit is sacred and I’ll never take it for granted.”
