For those who have gone back to San Francisco years after moving away, do you still feel that familiar fondness towards it? Or, has the city become something completely different?
The Reflections have released a stellar ode to the beautiful city of San Francisco. Twin brothers Dan and Tim spent their early childhood on the West Coast before being whisked away to the other side of the country. When visiting the Bay Area as adults, they remarked that it was no surprise that it felt like home.
They had this to say about the underlying message of the song:
The song ultimately confronts the notion, “Is the grass really greener on the other side?” Amidst the happiness and excitement of the song, certain motifs sprinkled throughout lead to a confrontation of these desires (e.g. “bought my car on Ebay with rose-tinted windows.”) Of course, the city has gone through immense change over the years, but at its heart, is it still the same San Francisco they’ve grown to know, love, and long for?
“San Francisco” looks to the city through rose-colored glasses. San Francisco itself has gone through many changes since the artists had last stepped foot there. But with everything we’ve grown a fond appreciation for, we always have a glamorized vision for what it should look like rather than how it actually appears.

Lyrics:
Already been to the city of angels
Lived out there so I’ve seen angle
Wanna travel up north in the Golden State
Where the grass is greener by the Golden Gate
And you know from the way I live
Find the key to be free it’s my destiny
So I will read Beatitudes
To change that attitude
And feel that gratitude
And rise in latitude
I will go to San Francisco
Hippy girls will know my name
Sally Soo and Mary Jane
I will go to San Francisco
Got love for my people out in New York City
But it’s 80 due west to the golden pretty
San Francisco where the green buds grow
Bought my car on Ebay with rose-tinted windows
Trying to find my peace
Get some release
Live life like I’m on the increase
Where the Cali greens grow think fast and move slow
Out in San Francisco
Uh
I will go to San Francisco
Hippy girls will know my name
Sally Soo and Mary Jane
I will go to San Francisco
I will go to San Francisco
Hippy girls will know my name
Sally Soo and Mary Jane
I will go to San Francisco
San Francisco
San Francisco
