The Feeling Of Being Lost Is Captured In Fischer King’s Latest Song

“Lost” is Los Angeles native Fischer King’s second single in anticipation of his self-titled debut EP. The orchestral section introducing the listener to the track sets the perfect, ominous tone before an electric guitar comes in and takes center stage. This guitar leads us to a more electronic motif, as if us as the listener are a wanderer in the forest and the guitar is a wise traveler helping us along the way. The grunge tone of the electronic section abruptly stops to give way to Fischer King’s tranquil voice. The guitar returns when the title of the track is first uttered leading once again to the heavy electronic section. It’s this pattern of mystery with light instrumentals mixed with the hypnotic guitar that are so enticing to the ear.

The end of the song marks the end of the pattern. Rather than the vocals and grunge instrumental coexisting separately, they crash together. In a metaphorical sense, this dénouement replicates a sort of realization that the singer is actually lost. It’s like when we fully understand the predicament we’re in; the realization hits you like a weight.

Fischer King’s music reflects the less glamorous side of life. Addiction and deception (both of yourself and others) are cited as being major themes throughout the EP. He says this about his work:

“Anyone who’s familiar with [addiction] knows it invariably breeds [deception], and unfortunately they’ve both touched my life to a considerable degree. I’ve lost friends, I’ve seen family struggle, and I myself have flirted with going down the wrong path”
