Showcasing artists going against the norm

Winding Down With Cloudchord’s Latest EP, Taken By The Sky

On February 13th, Cloudchord’s EP, Taken By The Sky, was independently released. Known for his chill, instrumental productions, Cloudchord takes his talents to the next level with this work. No two tracks sound the same – each bringing their own energies while simultaneously blending seamlessly into one another. The opening song of the EP, “Monsoon”, begins with a mystifying chord repetition that slowly progresses to a more intricate and exciting beat.

“Hustle Dust” gives off a pop, summer vibe that I can’t get enough of. The mostly electronic track surprises the listener with a beautiful guitar solo in the middle of the song that doesn’t break the flow. Instead, it enhances the entire song.

The title track is more on the techno side with snippets of guitar tabs and soft vocals spliced in from time to time. Beginning with a haunting guitar riff accompanied by a distant sounding orchestra and then jumping right into a synth-heavy beat. Once the song kicks in, it’s definitely a tune you would dance around your room to.

On the other hand, “Sleet” creates this soothing feeling that washes over you. Compared to the other tracks on the EP, “Sleet” allows for the guitar to take lead. It’s the type of track you’d plug your headphones in for. A song that you’d want to pay attention to every little detail. As the last song, it gives a satisfying end to the EP. As if it were the song to the end credits of a movie.

Taken By The Sky has some of the most riveting instrumental tracks I’ve listened to. If you need a 4 track EP to relax with after a long day, I highly recommend listening to this one.
