Reykjavik-born Heidrunna’s debut track “You Make Me Feel” is an intimate experience between artist and listener.
The pulsating synth of this track and electronic, but light voice is something we don’t see too often in everyday music. It’s a breath of fresh air in comparison to the mainstream tunes we hear over again.
The lyrics behind this track are very sexual and romantic, but Heidrunna delivers them like a secret to a new lover. This is what she had to say on the song: “I wrote this about an experience I had when I was in my hometown. It’s when you meet someone for the first time and feel this electric connection just when you least expect it. Also at the time I was heavily into Prince and it’s inspired by his honesty and simplicity in his writing, rhythm and structure.”
Cut It Out had the opportunity to speak with Heidrunna on her debut as an artist, the inspiration behind this single, and what we can expect to see from her in the future:
Cut It Out Magazine: Introduce yourself to our readers. Who are you, what do you do, interests, hobbies, etc.
Heidrunna: I’m Icelandic, born in Reykjavík. I’m a singer/songwriter. I love all things musical and all the artistic elements associated with it ?
CIO: Tell us about your debut single “You Make Me Feel”? What is your inspiration behind this song? Why did you choose this song as your debut?
H: The inspiration for this song is when you have this magnet connection, drawn to someone that just walked into the room. I chose this song because I think it’s a gentle introduction to what I’m about and the songs that will follow.
CIO: This song was described to Cut It Out as “an electronic fueled pop-romp”. Explain that to us, what does that mean for you and how do you feel like that description is emulated in your music?
H: An electronic fueled pop-romp is an interesting take on it but I kind of like it. The song in essence is electronica which works equally well as a reminiscing love song or a song that just makes you feel good about things at some point in your life.
CIO: Would you say this single captures the style of music you will continue to create, or do you think you are still working on your sound and might test out other avenues?
H: This song is stylistically one of the facets of the music that I like to make. It’s a snapshot of what is to come!!
CIO: Even though you are still celebrating your debut, what can we expect to see from you in the future?
H: Some genre crossing tunes of different tempo, so be prepared to put on your dancing shoes or maybe cry your eyes out.
CIO: Where can our readers follow you? List social media, promote your song! Tell our readers why they need to be streaming this track!
H: You can follow me on all the main platforms. My main love is Facebook and Instagram. I particularly love Instagram because it’s snappy and it’s easy to see where I’m at and what’s going on around me.
All of my songs are available on all the mainstream platforms. You must stream this track, because it’s gonna open the door on my music and introduce you to what is to come.
CIO: Thanks for your time and congratulations on your debut!
H: Thanks!
Heidrunna’s debut album Melodramatic is set to release in early 2022. It was a project created with Liam Howe – who credits artists like Lana Del Rey, MARINA, FKA Twigs, and Ellie Goulding as previous experience – and is expected to have an authentic ‘80s backdrop and electronic sound.
If you’re looking for a unique artist who will continue to rewrite the rules of music, Heidrunna is someone you want to keep up with.
