It’s a wonderful feeling meeting someone who has a positive impact on your life. Getting out of a dark place you didn’t know you were in and entering “a world of possibility” brings a sense of strength that was once lost.
This is what Empire Fall details in their latest single, “Show Me How To Love”. It’s a dynamic song that utilizes its instrumental track for subtle emphasis. The introduction steady builds itself up as it details lead singer Bandit reflecting on this meaning of a home. A place known to many as a comforting and protective place is in flames by the end of the first verse: “Down in the tunnels / When my house went up in flames / These ashes I can taste / Regrets with hints of shame.”
The song then picks up with a heavy rhythm guitar track and drum beat once the chorus kicks in. The original guitar track takes a back step as the interlude lightens with a sort of hopeful guitar riff highlighting the repeated “will you show me how to love” line towards the end of this section.
It’s fun to hear the harmony of the rhythm and lead guitars as the song progresses. What once felt like a battle between the two, they now work together to bring a new life to the song. The person that entered the life of the song’s main character helps them find the strength to change. They are creating harmony in their life with the help of another.
Bandit has this to say about “Show Me How To Love”:
This is a very personal song to me. It’s about how meeting the right person can make you wanna change, be the best person you can be. Even if it means completely rewiring your life. You feel brand new, rejuvenated. Because I think ultimately that’s the one feeling that matters most during our very limited time on this planet: Love. Feeling lit, giving it, spreading it.”
