The official 2024 Outside Lands lineup was released yesterday and wow, I really can’t wait for August! Artists like Grammy winner Victoria Monet, Ryan Beatty, and up-and-comers The Last Dinner Party are just some of the few artists that caught my eye. But what got me excited was seeing performers I’ve had the pleasure of watching live this last year.
Here are four artists to add to your festival schedule:
Chappell Roan
Performing at Berkeley’s UC Theatre the end of last year, Chappell Roan’s charm and command of the stage had the audience moving along the entirety of her set. It was beautiful seeing local drag artists as her opener. And more so, her vulnerability at particular parts of the set made her fans fall in love with her more.
Make sure you learn the dance to HOT TO GO! before her set.
Young The Giant
They’ve been one of my favorite bands since 2016. To finally see them live at the beautiful Greek Theater was a dream come to. You may have also heard the buzz about their intimate set for the Independent’s 20th anniversary series. No matter the venue, Young the Giant know how to put on a show.
Their stage production at the Greek was breathtaking. A friend of mine mentioned that they loved seeing the progression of their stage over the years. They noted that this show felt like they were finally able to fully flesh out their vision. I can only imagine what they’ll put together at Outside Lands.
TV Girl
This group made waves on TikTok multiple times over the years. The app’s latest obsession is their song “Taking What’s Not Yours” which utilized samples from a ninety’s anti-theft rap and a snippet from Nixon’s 1973 speech. When I saw them at the Fox Theater in 2023, I couldn’t help but notice how much the audience admired the artists on stage.
TV Girl’s discography is perfect to chill out to as you enjoy the breeze from Ocean Beach.
Jungle
Another chill group to enjoy at the festival. Jungle performed at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in 2023, but the last time I saw them was at the Fox Theater in 2021. I loved hearing “Heavy California” and “House in LA” live that night. Their latest hit, “Back on 74”, has a similar vibe to the aforementioned tracks but features their touring vocalist Lydia Kitto. You still have time to memorize the dance in the music video before seeing them live.
