The Raspy Lullaby of Violet Grohl’s Debut Album

Violet Grohl, daughter of Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, released her debut album Be Sweet To Me via Auroura Records / Republic Records on May 29th.

Recorded from late 2024 to early 2025 at producer Justin Raisen’s Los Angeles home studio, Bee Sweet To Me captures Violets love of film, particularly the works of David Lynch.

“Applefish” starts off with a mellow fuzz guitar and enchanting vocals. There is a heavier alternative sound between verses, where it returns to the chorus. In the second chorus, there is screeching from the guitar, mimicking a cry, one of my favorite sounds to hear in a song. It’s just something about a guitar screech that makes or breaks a song, and it worked perfectly in “Applefish”.

The track both starts and ends with emotional lyrics  “No past to escape to / Greetings from the other side”, bringing the song in a full circle, ending up again in the water, waiting to be saved.

My favorite track on the album, “Cool Buzz” starts with a killer guitar riff, heavy drums, and moshable beat (pairing greatly with the music video). There is a sick wet bass line throughout the song, and a killer repeated guitar motif starting at around forty seconds that just gets your body moving.

Grohl’s vocals are raw and seductive. Luring listeners into her grasp with her first words “Bust my lip / Is your heart still bleeding” and chorus “Shoot my favorite arrow / Through the mind that’s narrow”.

Be Sweet To Me is available on all platforms! Grohl is currently on tour through March 2027.
